Chelsea news: Mauricio Pochettino gets transfer wish after Frank Lampard's bold sale pitch

It's been a season to forget for Chelsea fans, but the imminent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino should give them plenty of encouragement for the future.

The highly-rated Argentina is expected to be officially confirmed as the new Blues boss any day now, although he will not take charge until the summer.

Pochettino will have his fair share of issues to contend with ahead of the 2023/24 campaign: Chelsea have one of the biggest squads in the entire Premier League and departures are a given, but the former Tottenham boss will also have designs on bringing in one or two of his own faces.

With speculation already running rife, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from in and around Stamford Bridge...

Pochettino to get transfer wish

Mauricio Pochettino is determined to sign a new No.1 goalkeeper in the summer - and Chelsea are set to do all they can to satisfy the demands of their new head coach.

The Blues are keen on Aston Villa 's World Cup-winning shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United.

Martinez has had a fine season at Villa Park and played a heroic role in Argentina's World Cup triumph back in December. The 30-year-old could be on the move if the price is right this summer, though.

But Lampard, who returned to the fold after Graham Potter 's sacking, believes that Chelsea's pulling power in the transfer market will not be affected - regardless of what happens between now and the end of May.

Chelsea have been rocked by the news that left-back Ben Chilwell could end up missing the rest of the season.

Chilwell has endured torrid luck with injuries this campaign and ended up missing out on a spot in England's World Cup squad. And now the defender is set for another spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury in last weekend's slender win over Bournemouth.

Lampard cast doubt on Chilwell featuring in Chelsea's final four games of the season. He explained in his pre-match press conference on Friday: "With a hamstring at this stage of the season, you'd clearly be worried [that he may miss] the remaining games."
