Chelsea news: Graham Potter staff exodus continues as Lineker and Rio disagree over Reece James

Here are your latest football.london Chelsea headlines on Sunday, September 25.

Staff exodus continues

Chelsea medical chief Paco Biosca has left the Blues, according to the Telegraph. The Spaniard has spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge, but has reportedly become the latest staff member to leave the club.

The report states that Biosca's departure has come as a 'shock' to the players at Chelsea, many of whom have worked with him for a lengthy period. First-team doctor Dimitrios Kalogiannidis will take over temporarily until a permanent replacement is found. However, no official announcement from the club is expected at this stage.

The fact Todd Boehly and co sent Wesley Fofana to America for his medical, rather that him completing it through the club's own medical team, was seen a strange call - and perhaps highlights why Biosca has departed.

Mount's World Cup dream

Mason Mount has revealed he would love to play in the World Cup final at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

Remember that? About a year and a half ago, Chelsea won their second Champions League in that exact stadium. Mount himself got that famous assist for Kai Havertz's winning goal.

In less than two months, Mount should be representing England in this year's FIFA World Cup. That is, of course, if he is selected in Gareth Southgate's squad.

Mount has been answering some questions about the upcoming World Cup while on Nations League duty with England. One of the questions put to him was the stadium he'd most like to play a World Cup final at.

He replied: "I’d probably say let’s take it back to Porto and the Estadio do Dragao, for obvious reasons."

If Mount does indeed make the England squad for the World Cup, then it would be his second major tournament for his country. Mount played a big part in England reaching the final of Euro 2020, but he has revealed his "dream" is to represent his country at a World Cup.

Lineker disagrees with Ferdinand on James debate

Rio Ferdinand stated on FIVE that he believes Chelsea full-back Reece James is currently 'ahead' of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold. James started for England in their 1-0 defeat to Italy on Friday evening, with Alexander-Arnold left on the bench.

Ferdinand said: "If I'm a winger, I look at who I don't want to play against more out of the two of them and it would be Reece James."

"I think physically Reece James can match people defensively and going forward is ridiculous. Trent Alexander-Arnold's passing I would say arguably is better over varied distances but I think Reece will score more goals. He's in there so much."

Gareth Southgate appears to agree with Ferdinand, with the Chelsea man looking as though he has the edge on Alexander-Arnold heading into the Qatar World Cup in November. However, James failed to impress against Italy as England were relegated from their Nations League group.

Given his performances for Liverpool over the last few years, there is a clamour from some corners for Alexander-Arnold to start over James. Despite his successes with the Reds, Alexander-Arnold has just 17 England caps across a four-year period, whereas James has 13 despite only making his Three Lions debut in 2020.
