Chelsea news: Graham Potter ready for double transfer blow as Jorginho shouts at Mykhailo Mudryk

Your morning Chelsea digest from football.london on Monday, January 23.

Jorginho shouts at Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea's fifth signing of the winter window played a small yet exciting role as the Blues drew 0-0 with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was a second half substitute for Graham Potter's men and provided an immediate spark for the side. His neat run inside the Liverpool box was one of the attacking highlights of the entire game.

His defensive work had been questioned upon his arrival though, especially having been out of competitive action since November, and he was instructed at one stage to pick up a loose ball by Jorginho, with the Italian shouting at him in the process.

Double transfer blow

Potter has a key couple of months coming up when it comes to squad make up. Not only does he have the contract situations of N'Golo Kante and Jorginho to monitor, he has to weigh them up with how it fits with the rest of his team.

Mason Mount is another approaching a big decision. The midfielder has 18 months left on his deal and is wanted by Liverpool should no agreement be reached.

Declan Rice also has 18 months to run but is expected to leave over the summer in order to recoup some money for West Ham. Chelsea would love to find themselves with both Rice and Mount on their books but that is appearing more and more unlikely.

Champions League squad rules explained

Chelsea's January spending has afforded Graham Potter plenty of options in his squad but that may also cause him some issues down the line.

The Blues have already purchased six new players with no belief that they will be done there, either. However, they will be unable to register all of their new recruits to the Champions League squad list.

The UEFA rules allow for only three new players to be put onto the squad list, meaning that there are going to be some unhappy players at Stamford Bridge.
