Chelsea appear to be moving closer to a move for Matthijs de Ligt this summer amid interest from other teams. Thomas Tuchel is yet to make a signing in the window, but work is being done to strengthen the squad.
A number of key players have left over the past few weeks, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen moving to Spain as free agents. This has left a gap in the squad at centre-back which the German coach will have to address.
Discussing his summer plans, Tuchel said earlier this year: “We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We are rebuilding. This is always challenging but we are up for the challenge.”

football.london understands that work is already underway to add a defender to the squad, with advanced talks being held with Manchester City over a return for Nathan Ake. However, the Netherlands international may see a fellow Dutch teammate play alongside him at the back.
Calciomercato, via the Mirror, reports that a deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt could soon be struck. The Blues are said to have offered £70million in the hopes of landing the 22-year-old.
However, they aren’t alone in their interest though, as SportBILD adds Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also in the race. Talks are underway with both the Bianconeri and de Ligt’s agent as the sides try to win the battle for his highly-prized signature.
