Chelsea have reportedly made 'positive progress' in securing the future of midfielder N'Golo Kante. The midfielder's existing deal at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in June but there is now increasing confidence that the 31-year-old will commit his future at the club.
Kante hasn't played for the club since August when he was substituted off against Tottenham with a hamstring injury in the second half. The France international missed six weeks of action before returning to training, before being ruled out for a further four months after requiring surgery on the area.
After missing France's World Cup campaign, Kante's future in west London has continued to be a sticky subject amid uncertainty of his recovery from injury. It was reported in the summer that the midfielder was seeking a longer contract duration but the club proposed a two-year deal plus the option of a third.

Now, as Todd Boehly puts the foundations down to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, Kante is now reportedly expected to extend his stay with the Blues. According to The Athletic, recent dialogue with the former Leicester City midfielder has provided optimism that he will commit his future.
Whilst the length of his new deal remains an issue, the report states that the club are actively working to conclude a compromise to ensure Kante remains part of Graham Potter's squad.
David Ornstein has claimed that Chelsea have always wanted the Frenchman to stay, viewing him as a 'legend and an extremely popular figure'. The news comes at the perfect time as January 1 opens the door for overseas sides to potentially secure Kante on a pre-contract agreement.
The report states there remains potential suitors from La Liga and Ligue 1, with PSG and Barcelona previously linked, while there are also admirers in the Premier League. But with Kante still regarded as one of the best in the world in his position, tying him down for the future could save Boehly millions next summer.
