Chelsea 'make £85m Wesley Fofana decision' as problem in Barcelona transfer emerges

Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours for Sunday, August 7.

Wesley Fofana pursuit continues

Chelsea's pursuit of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana looks set to heat up heading into next week.

It was claimed that Todd Boehly and co recently submitted a £70m bid for Fofana, who Leicester hold in high regard.

The Blues are reportedly ready to test Leicester's resolve for the French defender, with the Guardian's Jacob Steinberg claiming Chelsea are willing to go to £85m for Fofana.

There's no doubt the 21-year-old central defender is a talented prospect with plenty of potential, but it must be said £85m is an astronomical sum of money.

And while it's a position the Blues do need to strengthen, it remains to be seen whether or not spending £85m on a defender with just 35 Premier League appearances is a prudent way to operate.

Chelsea hoping to do swap deal with Barcelona over Marcos Alonso

Chelsea want to use Marcos Alonso in a swap deal to sign Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest.

Alonso has been linked with a move to Barcelona plenty this summer, with talks currently on-going.

However, the Mirror claims there could be a potential problem in the deal as Chelsea hold interest in right-back Dest and would like to do a swap with the Catalans this summer.

Additionally, Alonso's move to Barcelona could also be held up by the news La Liga blocked the Catalans attempts to register their new summer signings, meaning they could look to prioritise offloading players instead of signing the Chelsea left-back.

Regardless, Alonso still looks set to depart Stamford Bridge this summer following the signing of Marc Cucurella.

Chelsea target Benjamin Sesko prefers Austrian stay

Red Bull Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko looks set to stay with the Austrian side for another season.

Sesko, who has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Chelsea, is said to favour staying with Salzburg for another season to allow him to follow the same trajectory of Erling Haaland.

Sky Sports Austria claim Sesko will remain in Austria for this season and will look to assess his options next summer.
