Neil Warnock woke up on the wrong side of the bed and remembered the day that the offside rule fell out of his favour.
Cesar Azpilicueta has been subjected to some of the most absurd comments in the last few days.
I honestly cannot believe some of the things that have come from the former Cardiff manager.
Speaking on Talk Sport, he called the Chelsea captain “lucky” and insisted that he is not a “great defender”.
A man who has won the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, and now the FIFA Club World Cup is “lucky”.
Goodness me, Neil, I know the last minute goals when Cardiff played Chelsea must have hurt you, but this is an outrageous claim.
Cesar Azpilicueta, or Dave as his former teammate Diego Costa nicknamed him, has been more than just fortunate in his career. Years of consistency have led to his captaincy and contributed to his credibility as a defender. He may not be the most pleasing of the modern era fullbacks, but he gets the job done on the highest level.
"I think it goes two ways, to be honest. I think Azpilicueta has been a very fortunate lad to be at a club like Chelsea. I don't think he is a great defender." Neil Warnock said when speaking on TalkSport.
''Sometimes in football, you need a bit of luck, and I think he's had a bit of luck at the right time and in the right place. That's what you need in football. You need a bit of luck to be successful."
John Terry doesn't agree with the former Middlesbrough manager asking the question if that conversation was some sort of wind-up.
To be fair to Neil Warnock, he must still be fuming over Dave’s 83rd-minute equaliser against Cardiff back in 2019. The Bluebirds were up 1-0 against Chelsea, only to amount to nothing in the end. Chelsea went away with the three points, snatching it with less than 10 minutes to spare. The outrage led to one of the funniest football memes of all time.
Warnock did not hold back in his fury. He charges straight to the referees at full time for the ultimate staring contest. My oh my, was it a scary sight.
I almost felt bad for the officials having to look him in the eye, knowing that the Azpilicueta goal should have been chalked off.
But that’s football. Before VAR was introduced to the Premier League, we relied on the eye of the linesmen.
There’s no point in justifying just how great the Chelsea captain is. It goes without saying. Warnock needs to find it in his heart to forgive him.
Or maybe he genuinely believes that Dave is just an average Joe who got lucky. Questionable take, but everybody is allowed their own opinion. I don't think he's over that offside goal all them years ago.
I'm sure Azpilicueta won't be upset with what Warnock says after completing the set at Chelsea over the weekend.
