Chelsea injury woes mount as Armando Broja sent home from Albania camp

Armando Broja will return to Chelsea after he was carried off with an ankle injury while on international duty with Albania.

The 21-year-old took a kick on his left ankle in the 50th minute against Italy.

He was carried off the field and seen icing his ankle shortly after. He watched the rest of the second half from the bench.

There will be further medical checks in the coming days but he is not expected back for Albania’s upcoming friendly match against Armenia.

Chelsea are hopeful that the injury isn’t serious, with the medical department set to assess any potential damage in the next few days.

The withdrawal of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle added to a lengthy injury list ahead of the World Cup break.

It also features Reece James, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Carney Chukwuemeka.

The Blues are, however, hopeful that the six-week hiatus for the World Cup will see most of them return.

Only Kante has no chance of making it back for the next match against Bournemouth on December 27.
