Chelsea injury update: Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku latest news and return dates

Chelsea continue to be hit with a number of injury issues as they struggle to produce a consistent run of form.

Mauricio Pochettino's side appeared to have turned a corner before the international break and then backed it up with a strong performance against Arsenal, but the Blues fell to a disappointing defeat against Brentford over the weekend.

Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk were among those to miss that match, while there are still a number of Chelsea players still waiting to make their first appearance of the season.

Here's the latest on Chelsea's injury list...

Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez was a doubt for the Brentford game anyway, due to his partner giving birth late in the week, but it was an injury that kept him out of the defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino revealed that the midfielder missed out due to a "small muscle issue", with the problem not believed to be one that will rule Fernandez out for long.

He is likely to be back in contention for the Carabao Cup clash in midweek, though it remains to be seen if the Chelsea boss risks him in that.

Potential return date: Wednesday, November 1, 2023 vs Blackburn

Mykhailo Mudryk

There have been signs that Mykhailo Mudryk is starting to find form at Stamford Bridge, but he too was ruled out of the Brentford clash.

He also picked up a muscle injury ahead of that match but could return to face Blackburn on Wednesday night.

Christopher Nkunku

Christopher Nkunku is yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea, having suffered up a serious knee injury in pre-season.

The Frenchman returned to training on the grass last week and the Blues hope that he could be back in action after the November international break, with Pochettino providing a positive update.

The Chelsea boss said: "He's working really hard. I think he's really close. As soon as possible we can have him involved. He's a really important player for us."

Armando Broja

Armando Broja has missed the last two matches as Chelsea continue to treat him for "irritation on the knee".

It is not believed to be a serious issue, with Broja likely to come back into contention in the coming days.

Ben Chilwell

It is proving to be another injury-hit campaign for Ben Chilwell, who suffered a significant hamstring injury at the end of September.

Reports suggested the left-back would miss two months of football, meaning the Blues are likely to be without Chilwell until December at the earliest.

Potential return date: December 2023

Romeo Lavia

Like Nkunku, Romeo Lavia is still waiting to make his debut after arriving at the club in the summer.

An ankle injury continued to keep the midfielder out of action, with Pochettino revealing ahead of the recent international break that Lavia was still not running.

It looks likely that Chelsea fans might have to wait until December to finally see the Belgian in a Blues shirt.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Carney Chukwuemeka felt pain in his knee earlier this month when he returned to full training sessions, meaning he has still not featured since August.

Chelsea confirmed he had suffered a "recent setback", with no timeline given on his return to first-team action.

Potential return date: November 2023

Trevoh Chalobah

A thigh injury has kept Trevoh Chalobah on the sidelines this season, with the defender yet another Chelsea player to be frustrated by injury issues.

He was nearing a return to full fitness before suffering a setback ahead of the Arsenal match, but Chalobah will still hope to be back in contention in the near future.

Potential return date: November 2023

Wesley Fofana

Wesley Fofana faces a long spell on the sidelines after undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery in the summer.

That is usually an injury that rules players are out for up to nine months, meaning Fofana is set to miss much of the season.
