Chelsea injury news and expected return dates vs Leicester City: Havertz worry, Kovacic blow

Chelsea will be keen to bounce back from the club's third successive defeat in the FA Cup final against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge this evening. However, the Blues head into the clash having suffered a handful of injuries against Liverpool, with stalwarts Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Timo Werner pulled from proceedings.

But, now, the attention turns to the west London side's penultimate Premier League game of the season versus the Foxes. Following Arsenal's loss at Newcastle on Monday night, the weight will be off Thomas Tuchel's shoulders having secured Champions League qualification.

With the Foxes in Tuchel's sights, the Chelsea boss has a handful of tough decisions to make. Andreas Christensen, who pulled out of the FA Cup final squad to face Liverpool on the morning of the game, is a doubt for the clash with Leicester, of which he confirmed when speaking to football.london.

So, football.london brings you all the latest injury news ahead of these final two fixtures starting with the Foxes' trip to the capital on Thursday night.

Andreas Christensen

The defender pulled out on the morning of the cup final. Tuchel provided more context on his situation in his pre-match presser.

Return date: Unknown

What Tuchel said: "I'm not sure yet if he is involved tomorrow or on the weekend. Andreas came in the morning of the match to inform me, to speak to me. He told me he was not ready to play the match, to start the match and be on the bench. He had his reasons. They stay private and confidential."

Kai Havertz

Havertz missed training earlier this week after suffering a hamstring injury. There was some debate in the build-up around who should start out of himself and Romelu Lukaku, but when he was nowhere to be seen as the line-ups were announced, it was assumed he was injured.

But, it sounds like he is not far away from a return, though, of course, remains a question mark.

Expected return: Unknown

What Tuchel said: "Kai tries today in training. He did individual training yesterday but was not in team training. So it's still a big question mark."

Timo Werner

Many supporters were left baffled as to why the German was not brought on during the 120 minutes of football at Wembley against Liverpool. But, Tuchel revealed in his post-match press conference that Werner had suffered a problem in the warm-up and was not used as a result.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, the German boss confirmed Werner's absence versus Leicester.

Expected return: Watford (H) - May 22

What Tuchel said: "Timo (Werner) is out with a hamstring injury."

Thiago Silva

Silva went down with an injury with just 15 minutes on the clock but carried on to finish the rest of the clash, although was not called upon to take a penalty. He did go down once again in the second half with cramp but once again soldiered on.

When asked about the fitness of the Brazilian, Tuchel was slightly evasive, instead crediting the team as a whole for playing through the pain barrier when required.

Expected return: Leicester City (H) - May 19

What Tuchel said: "It was clear we would suffer against this team and we managed to stay in the match because of an excellent goalkeeping performance, then we dug in and got better and better and created chances ourselves. Everyone is in pain, there is no way you play this game without pain."

Ben Chilwell

Chilwell underwent surgery on his torn ACL back in December but has stepped up his recovery this week. The England international last appeared for the Blues in their 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League group stage.

Speaking back in April, Tuchel said: "Ben will be able to join in team training with the youth, this will be his next step in the weeks. Hopefully, he can join our training at the end of the season."

Return date: Pre-season

What Tuchel said: "Ben Chilwell was back in team training which was very, very good news and a big uplift for everybody and well deserved. So nice to see him back in training. Of course, not available for the match"

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has not featured for Chelsea since the 3-2 victory over Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round back in March. Hudson-Odoi picked up an Achilles injury followed by an issue with his lower back meaning he has not played in two months.

The 21-year-old has not been spotted in first-team training and is unlikely to feature again this season after Tuchel admitted he won't be rushed back.

Return date: Pre-season

What Tuchel said: "He dropped out of the squad from one day to the other, more or less. Still, in individual training, progressing but not in team training. He will come early in pre-season like Chilwell to start a programme to be back on July 2 with team training."

Mateo Kovacic

Kovacic soldiered through the FA Cup final with a swollen ankle following a challenge at Elland Road.

Return date: Watford (H) - May 22

What Tuchel said: "Mateo with one or just half a training session. Everybody could see that Kova had a big swollen ankle after the match and did not train yesterday. So I'm not sure he will be available."
