Chelsea hold key advantage in Man Utd transfer battle for £44m Victor Osimhen alternative

Chelsea and Manchester United look set to go head-to-head in a number of different attacking summer transfer battles as both clubs look to acquire a natural striker. Wout Weghorst for United and David Datro Fofana for Chelsea were signed as temporary stop-gaps to solve any goal scoring issues and it's fair to say one team has benefitted more from their decision than the other.

Weghorst has become a key part of Erik ten Hag's set up, recently being deployed in a free roaming attacking midfield role which has greatly benefitted Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes. Fofana meanwhile has made just one Premier League start which came against Southampton where he was hooked off at half time and subsequently left out of the following two matchday squads.

The need for a natural striker at both clubs is still ever-present and Napoli star Victor Osimhen looks set to be the primary target. The 24-year-old is the top scorer in Serie A with 19 goals as Napoli sit 18 points clear at the top of the league.

Paris Saint-Germain are also in the race for Osimhen and Napoli have set the price demanding around £100million for their striker, as per the Mirror. All three clubs are not shy of spending that amount of money, but they could still be put off by the high price tag and could therefore opt for a cheaper alternative and one of those has been speaking about his future.

Lille striker Jonathan David, who was major transfer target of Arsenal, has been discussing the Premier League once again. According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Lille valued David at €50million (£44.2million) in the January's transfer window.

In a recent interview, the Canada international name dropped two legends of the Premier League and also made a telling claim that would be a significant boost to Chelsea if they decided to sign him.

David said via SunSport: "The Champions League is not a condition. Everyone wants to play in the biggest competitions in the world. But the most important thing is always the project. I don’t know what the future holds but I am open to every possibility.

"The atmosphere in England is good every week, every stadium is filled. These are the games you want to play, with an atmosphere like that. And there are a lot of top teams.

"Growing up I looked at different players. Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba... these players and the Premier League is one of the world’s best leagues."
