Chelsea handed Joao Felix transfer security as 'secret clause' reveals clever Todd Boehly plan

Chelsea have been handed a huge boost in their mission to sign on-loan Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix permanently. The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United earlier this month but, after the Blues entered the race, he opted for a move to Stamford Bridge instead.

The west Londoners are expected to pay the Spanish giants around £9million for the six-month loan Felix, who had been watched on several occasions by the club's scouts before an agreement was reached. Despite having played just 57 minutes for Chelsea, the Portugal international looks set to be a great success.

Initially, it was revealed that Atletico didn't want to provide Todd Boehly an option to buy in Felix's contract. However, The Athletic have since reported otherwise, handing the Blues great security ahead of the summer.

The report states that there is a clause in Felix's deal which 'opens the door to a permanent transfer in the summer'. If the forward continues to impress until the end of the season, Chelsea appear to have the upper-hand.

However, it must be said that the details of said clause remains unknown as to whether it is a first-option or option-to-buy. Having served a three-match suspension after picking up a red card against Fulham, Felix is set to make his return in the reverse fixture on Friday, February 3.

Graham Potter seems to be a big fan of the Portuguese star. Speaking to the press upon Felix's arrival, the Chelsea boss said: "He's a quality player, can make a difference in the final third of the pitch, young but has obviously had a lot of really good experience. He's a quality player that gives everyone a lift."

In conversation with the official Chelsea website, Felix said: "Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge."

After Mykhailo Mudryk impressed in his debut against Liverpool, the Ukrainian looks poised to ignite an exciting relationship on the pitch with Felix. Not to mention the arrival of Noni Madueke too.
