Chelsea: Fresh N’Golo Kante injury blow confirmed as Graham Potter admits uncertainty over star’s return date

Graham Potter has confirmed another setback for N'Golo Kante in his recovery from a hamstring injury as Chelsea's medical staff continue to assess the Frenchman.

The 31-year-old has been absent since coming off injured against Tottenham in an Premier League match on August 14 and he had recently made his return to training with the first-team.

However, Kante now looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

“We’re just waiting for [Kante’s] reaction from training,” Potter said at the San Siro on Monday ahead of his side’s Champions League match with AC Milan

“It is certainly not ideal so we will have to wait and see the extent of it and go from there.”

Hakim Ziyech is also out through illness and Wesley Fofana has a knee strain. The Blues travelled to Italy with a squad of 22 senior players, all of whom are ready to be called upon for the crucial Group E match.

“Everyone is available apart from the guys we mentioned,” Potter added. “The fact we could rotate a few [against Wolves] helped us in terms of availability for tomorrow's game and freshness.”

If the Blues win on Tuesday night, they could go top of the group having been bottom ahead of the third matchday only last week.

Milan will prove tough opposition after beating Juventus in Serie A at the weekend ahead of a pivotal match in a tight group.

“It's an incredible place here and a very different game,” he concluded.

“AC Milan will try to use the home advantage, as we did [last week]. Two good teams, two evenly-matched teams. I'm looking forward to it.”
