Thomas Tuchel has a huge few weeks ahead of him. The Chelsea boss is tasked with completely refreshing his squad just weeks away from pre-season preparations for the next campaign.
The defence has been left thin in depth, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving the club as free agents, while the midfield battles with the prospect of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho doing the same next summer. Up front, there are plenty of options, but none that were able to fire under Tuchel last time out.
When discussing the issue of finding the net, the manager said: “We demand a lot from our strikers in terms of intensity, so there are several reasons why things are maybe like this and we are on it.”

The summer transfer window offers the perfect opportunity for the German coach to address such issues, be it with his playing style, the options available to him or a combination of the two. That means, however, that some of the current squad may have to leave for some players to join.
Romelu Lukaku could be one of those, as reports suggest that a final deal has been agreed to loan him back to Inter Milan. It comes one year after his club-record return to Stamford Bridge, where he only managed eight Premier League goals.
However, he may not be the only one, as journalist Antonio Vitiello, via InsiderMilan, reports that Hakim Ziyech could follow his teammate to Italy. It wouldn’t be with Inter though, but rather city rivals AC Milan.
The report claims that a loan fee of €5million (£4.3million) is on the table, while a €20million (£17million) buy option could be included. It remains to be seen whether the deal materialises, but it would be another key exit this summer, before some arrivals.
