Chelsea fans given more Manchester United fixture confusion amid Brighton and Newcastle decision

Chelsea fans are still unsure as to if they will be able to go to watch their side play Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 22 after further disruption.

The fixture had already been moved, but no kick-off time was announced until last week, with supporters growing angry at the lack of communication regarding the event. All other matches for that weekend had been confirmed, but due to a battle between broadcasters and the Premier Legaue over TV slots, this specific game had a delayed announcement.

A statement from Chelsea Supporters' Trust on October 5 read: "It is unacceptable and deeply irresponsible for a KO time not to have been announced for Chelsea vs Manchester United on October 22. We are 17 days away from the match and supporters have been given no information about what time the game will begin. The fixture date was agreed on August 30. Five weeks to agree on a time is a disgrace. We remind everyone that we are supporters, not customers.

"When this fixture was first announced back in June, all parties were aware that there was a possibility it would have to be moved due to [Champions League] fixture clashes. Not having a comprehensive plan in place is damaging to the sport and its supporters. Our message to the broadcasters and Premier League is clear - #SortItOut."

With just nine days until the heavyweight clash at Stamford Bridge, further complications have been caused for Chelsea fans amid ticketing troubles.

Supporters hopeful of buying tickets this morning (October 13) were left angry, disappointed and frustrated by not being able to gain access to the ticket page, instead being sat in the Virtual Waiting Room system. The new design, used this season, has not gone down well with fans that have had longer wait times than normal, but even for such a high profile game, the queue for members and fans with loyalty points had gone on for well over an hour.

Chelsea addressed this issue, writing on the ticket page: "Regrettably, due to system issues, we have to cancel today’s ticket sale. Tickets will now go on sale tomorrow from 10am via the Chelsea FC website.”

This has had a knock-on effect for fans hoping to purchase tickets for Brighton vs Chelsea on October 29 as they were meant to be available on Friday, October 14, but have now been moved back to Monday, October 17 instead. The Newcastle United away fixture tickets available to season ticket holders has also been moved back to Tuesday. The move means that fans that are able to attend the Manchester United game will have just eight days to arrange travel for the match, if they are successful in buying a ticket.
