Chelsea chief Daniel Finkelstein has added fuel to fire after liking a tweet begging the club to sign Ousmane Dembele.
The Barcelona star is available on a free transfer with his contract at the Nou Camp expiring this month and the Blues are in the race to sign him, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester United. But Thomas Tuchel knows the player well from his time in charge at Borussia Dortmund and a move is believed to be on the cards.
The German coach wants to freshen up his attack and the Frenchman might be the answer - though his injury history would make any transfer a gamble. Nevertheless, it was under Tuchel that he flourished and convinced Barcelona to part with £135million for his services back in 2017.
Still just 25 and with over 100 La Liga appearances to his name after five years at Barca, Dembele is likely to be in high demand this summer - with Chelsea fans hoping that his next destination is London. So much so, that one fan got in contact with one of the new board members at the club, Finkelstein.
With the Chelsea chief tagged, one Twitter user replied to another fan saying: "Please tell him to kindly sign ousmane dembele."
The Conservative peer is one of several new arrivals at Stamford Bridge HQ after Todd Boehly's purchase of the Blues from Roman Abramovich. Along with Barbara Charone, they have joined as non-executive members while the American billionaire will take charge of day-to-day operations at the club.
The end of Abramovich's reign has meant that the UK government has lifted sanctions on Chelsea, meaning they can act in the transfer window and hand out new contracts. Among those being discussed for new deals are Mason Mount and Reece James, while the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have already penned agreements elsewhere for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Nevertheless, Chelsea are looking to make up for lost time while reports in Spain insist that they are the frontrunners for Dembele's signature. Other areas of the squad require surgery as soon as possible, as well. Jules Kounde has been heavily linked after the Blues missed out on the Frenchman last year at Sevilla. There is a strong feeling that the centre-back could be the first arrival of the Boehly era.
Another defender is also being eyed with Josko Gvardiol one of Tuchel's preferred targets while further forward, his RB Leipzig pal Christopher Nkunku is another being courted. Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling and Lille star Jonathan David are also being monitored.
