Chelsea could yet be in for a reunion with Thomas Tuchel again this season after the Champions League-winning boss parted company with the club on Wednesday (September 7).
Tuchel was relieved of his duties at the club by Todd Boehly less than 15 months after winning the Champions League with Chelsea, and his departure shocked the football world despite a rocky start to the new season for the Blues.
With three away defeats in a row and just one convincing performance - coming in an ultimately disappointing 2-2 draw with Tottenham - Tuchel had come under fire for failing to get his attack to fire whilst the previously reliant defence was leaking goals at the other end.

Boehly and co moved quickly to appoint Tuchel's successor in Graham Potter. It highlighted a crazy month in which former Brighton player Marc Cucurella left Potter, whilst Chelsea's Billy Gilmour and Levi Colwill would end up going the opposite direction to team up with Potter, only for him to swiftly move away from the south coast.
With Tuchel no longer at the club and fan unrest and doubts over the direction that the new ownership group are taking Chelsea in, they could see their former manager returning sooner than expected. Although it has been a tough 12 months for Tuchel, who oversaw possibly the most turbulent period in recent Chelsea history, alongside a divorce from his wife. The German appeared to lose his steam during pre-season, and the same energy levels haven't been evident from his former team this season either.
Now, with the German out of a job, many expect him to take a break following a non-stop four years, which has seen him unemployed for just one month despite being involved in some of the most high-profile clubs. Tuchel was appointed as Chelsea manager within a month of losing his post at Paris Saint-Germain and hasn't had more than 30 days out of a job since joining the French giants in 2018.
He could be drawn to watching the action at Liverpool with interest after Jurgen Klopp's side also suffered a damaging loss on matchday one of the Champions League. After the 4-1 defeat to Napoli, Klopp dismissed any discontent between him and the club, saying, "Not really," when asked if being sacked worried him. "Our owners are rather calm and expect me to sort the situation and not think someone else will."
The German, who Tuchel has eerily followed as a manager at Mainz and Dortmund, has only won two of Liverpool's six matches this campaign. However, as much as Tuchel might fit the high-pressing mould at Liverpool, it is a long way off and doesn't seem likely, with agent Rob Segal saying, "I definitely don't see his next job being in the Premier League," speaking to CaughtOffside.
If Tuchel was to join Liverpool in a shock move, then Chelsea still have to face Liverpool twice in the league this season - though the first meeting is scheduled for September 18, so it would need a drastic move from the Reds.
