The list of possible Reece James back-up options identified by Chelsea continues to grow with a Premier League right back the latest to emerge on the Blues' radar. Sporting CP star Pedro Porro, who is Tottenham's main January target, was the latest player to be to added to the list of options, with the Blues in contact with his agent.
Sporting's stance on Porro is clear with his £39million release clause being met the only way he departs the Portuguese outfit in January. Other Chelsea targets including Denzel Dumfries, Josip Juranovic and Nahuel Molina do not have a financial sum that could block a departure and the latest Blues target.
Aston Villa's Matty Cash is now on the list of targets after a number of impressive seasons at Villa Park. The Poland international arrived from Nottingham Forest in 2020 for £16million and according to Simon Phillips, via Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, the Blues are said to be "considering" a move for the 25-year-old.

However, there are some obstacles that could prevent Chelsea from signing Cash, and other possible right-back options who could arrive in January as a back-up to James. As revealed by Matt Law, via Daily Telegraph, a new midfielder, forward and another right-back are Chelsea's January priorities, but it remains to be seen whether all those targets will be achieved in the winter window.
Enzo Fernandez is of course the obvious midfielder Todd Boehly can bring to the club in January, despite talks collapsing between Benfica and the Blues. Joao Felix's likely arrival could complete a desired attacking transfer, however Marcus Thuram and Mykhaylo Mudryk are both still firmly on the radar of those in west London.
With James expected back in the next few weeks, it could be that the choice of bringing in another right-back falls behind potential arrivals of a forward and central midfielder.
Specifically regarding Cash, Chelsea may also face a significant obstacle with former Arsenal manager Unai Emery recently appointed as the new Villa boss. Before the World Cup, Cash opened up on Emery after their impressive victory at Brighton where he admitted the clubs new system was "really nice to play in".
Speaking to talkSPORT, via Birmingham Mail, he said: "It’s still early days, only a couple of weeks, but I’m sure that in the next few coming months, the gaffer has got time to implement exactly what he wants which he has done anyway, but a couple of weeks it’s difficult to do it all. I think we’re seeing a new side out there really, really hard to beat and good on the counter attack, it’s really nice to play in."
