Chelsea’s 2021/22 season was a rollercoaster ride, with sparks of joy met with uncertainty throughout. Despite Thomas Tuchel ’s men setting the pace early on in the campaign, they were unable to sustain it, having to settle for third.
In the cup competitions, they found some relief in winning the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, though beyond that they were met with some unfortunate luck. In both domestic cups, the Blues made it to the final against Liverpool, losing on penalties twice, while Real Madrid denied one of the great Champions League comebacks in the quarter-finals.
On his plans for the summer, Tuchel has said that he can’t go away as he prepares to go into the next campaign: “Cannot go on holiday, no. There are too many things to clarify and give an opinion.”
