Chelsea 'confirm' transfer decision after $123m deal as Mason Mount handed best case scenario

Welcome to the football.london transfer briefing. To help you keep on top of all things Chelsea going on in the market we've got the latest noises coming from social media, journalists and so-called ITKs, rounding up what's what in the world of the Blues.

Chelsea tell Inter Lukaku decision

Chelsea will not be alllowing another loan for Romelu Lukaku this summer according to reports in Italy. The 29-year-old spent the past season back at San Siro after a disastrous first year since his record £97million ($123m) move to Stamford Bridge.

He is now in limbo with a desire to remain in Italy but Chelsea not willing to let him continually leave on a temporary basis. Inter are struggling financially and are expected to be stretched with their transer business.

football.london says: Lukaku is said to have turned down a deal to join the Saudi Pro League and that looks the most likely option when it comes to a sale. The Middle East sides are able to not only offer him the high wages required but also the chance to pay Chelsea some form of compensation for a permanent deal.

The longer the window goes on the less it seems like he will be returning to Chelsea and this only confirms that. It's sale or bust for Lukaku, who is unlikely to be turned toward a dramatic Stamford Bridge return once again.

Mount to return for pre-season

Mason Mount will not be holding Chelsea to ransom this summer and will return to the club for pre-season training ahead of the tour to America in July, according to reports.

The 24-year-old has been at the centre of one of the biggest sagas of the window already with Manchester United making three bids for him but all of them being rejected and countered by Chelsea. As he enters the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are willing to let him go rather than risk him leaving for free next year.

football.london says: The saga continues. Perhaps Chelsea's new best-case scenario is Mount remaining at the club after no agreement being found between Manchester United and themselves, with the opportunity to then convince him of staying.

With Pochettino's persuasion there is a chance that such a reality unfolds and but it still seems to be a long way off. Mount has all but agreed a deal to move to Old Trafford and relations with Chelsea and the fans is no longer high.

As an academy graduate and one of the best performers since his debut in 2019 it's perhaps no surprise that he isn't pushing for an exit and that provides a chance at one final shot for redemption that otherwise wouldn't exist.
