Chelsea appear to be moving closer to landing Benfica star midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the January transfer window, but there's still some uncertainty surrounding a move. The youngster has become a target for the Blues as the winter market opens, with the midfield in need of a rework.
Fernandez impressed especially over the World Cup, where he was a consistent performer for Argentina in the tournament. The nation ended up as eventual winners for a third time, with the Benfica ace going on to win Young Player of the Tournament at the award ceremony.
Plenty of sides have since been linked with a switch, but the Blues are the club that appear to be clear favourites to land his signature. According to Relevo, they are "one step closer" to landing the youngster, with just formalities that need to be sorted to ensure the deal goes through.

A deal could have been sorted much simpler if Chelsea triggered his £105million release clause, however that wasn't the plan set out by the hierarchy. The ownership have instead looked to pay above his transfer value to ensure they can land him ahead of others and at a payment structure that fits them.
The current thing that could hold it up is a decision made by the Benfica board themselves. That's because CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs reports that they remain "divided" over whether to accept the bid as they have been caught off guard by the approach made by Chelsea.
It remains to be seen whether the bid over £100million will be accepted or if the side need to change their approach or offer to ensure they land their main target.
