The Premier League commences in less than a month's time, and Thomas Tuchel is without a solid number of defenders in pre-season training. Cesar Azpiicueta and Marcos Alonso travelled with the team to Los Angeles for the pre-season tour but are tipped to join Andreas Christensen in Barcelona before the transfer window shuts. That's four defenders that Tuchel could be losing in one window, including Antonio Rudiger. Yet Chelsea have not replaced a single one.
Matthijs de Ligt, and Kalidou Koulibaly have all been linked to Chelsea this summer. As proactive as Todd Boehly has been throughout the window, it seems the Blues are not close to signing de Ligt, so they need to move on fast to avoid disappointment. Koulibaly is on the list of preferred defenders that Chelsea are looking into.
