Manchester United could have a decisive say in Todd Boehly's search for a new sporting director. Chelsea are said to be considering a move to hire Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos for the role, but they could face competition for his signature.
Now that the transfer window has slammed shut, Chelsea's priority is to recruit a new sporting director. The likes of Michael Edwards, Paul Mitchell and Andrea Berta have all been linked with the post, but Campos' name has become increasingly mentioned in recent days.
Campos has an eye-catching CV after impressing in a sporting director role at both AS Monaco and Lille. His recruitment was particularly impressive during his three-year spell at Monaco, where he signed the likes of James Rodriguez, Fabinho and Bernardo Silva.
The 58-year-old only joined PSG in June in the role of a football advisor, where he linked back up with Kylian Mbappe, who he worked closely with at Monaco. However, if Chelsea do decide to move for Campos to fill their vacancy, Man United could also have a big say. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is supposedly keen on taking over the Red Devils, would like to bring Campos to to Old Trafford if he does take over from the Glazer family.
However, Chelsea also reportedly have another target, with the Telegraph reporting that the Blues are keen on Red Bull Salzburg's Christophe Freund - who visits Stamford Bridge on Wednesday for a Champions League clash. Freund is described as a 'data-driven specialist' and it remains to be seen whether the Blues will firm up their interest.
According to reports, a big offer from Boehly may tempt Freund to swap Austria for West London. He has been Salzburg's sporting director since 2015.
