Chelsea: Calum McFarlane hints at key triple injury boost for Fulham derby clash

Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana and Robert Sanchez will all be available for Chelsea’s match against Fulham if they make it through Tuesday afternoon’s training session unscathed.

The trio reported to Cobham and will take part in a session led by caretaker boss Calum McFarlane before being assessed by medical staff.

The Fulham match at Craven Cottage on Wednesday will be Under-21 manager McFarlane’s last in temporary charge of the senior team, before new Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior takes his first training session on Thursday morning ahead of Saturday’s visit to Charlton in the FA Cup.

McFarlane guided Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Sunday, which Marc Cucurella missed after failing to recover in time from his hamstring injury.

On the eve of the City game, Chelsea also learned they would be without goalkeeper Sanchez because of a small muscle injury and centre-back Fofana due to illness.

But there is hope that all three players can return at Fulham, where Moises Caicedo will be back after serving a one-match suspension.

“They're all training today,” McFarlane said at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“We've got training in a few hours, so they'll be taking part in the session today. We'll have a lot better idea after the session.

“No, no, [none have been ruled out] at this point. So we'll look at training, see how they look, and make a call after that.”

Asked what he has told the team ahead of Fulham, McFarlane said: “The same thing we did against City. We’ll try and prepare with the limited time we have as best we can and try and build on that second-half performance.

“They know the belief we have in them and we just want to keep reinforcing that.”

Chelsea will remain without Romeo Lavia, Levi Colwill and Dario Essugo against Fulham.
