Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told transfer he's "got to look for" after Leeds debacle

Thomas Tuchel has been urged to sign a new striker after Chelsea drew a blank in their disappointing defeat to Leeds United.

The Whites were dominant at Elland Road on Sunday, securing a 3-0 win over the Blues. The visitors had just four shots on target, with Leeds keeper Ilan Meslier barely troubled by Tuchel's side.

Earlier this summer, Tuchel had sanctioned the departures of both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, leaving him with only Kai Havertz as a frontline striker option. The decision to weaken his attacking options appears to have backfired though, which is set to force them back into the transfer market.

And former Blues assistant boss Jody Morris has urged Tuchel to follow through and push to bring in a new striker. Morris believes that the way Tuchel sets up his team means that a new forward is a necessity.

"I do think Chelsea need to go out and get someone because the manager was disappointed with how clinical they were last season in the final third. Also the amount of possession and dominance they had in games and they weren't putting teams to bed with the chances they were creating," he told Stadium Astro.

"Relying on wing-backs to score goals, last season Reece James and Ben Chilwell were scoring a lot and assisting a lot, the minute you took both of them out of the team and the wing-backs weren't scoring, Chelsea suffered.

"It’s a funny one because even though we’re three games into the season I have to say I thought Chelsea were poor from an attacking aspect against Everton, they didn’t create enough clear-cut chances. I thought the same today [against Leeds] even the chances they had, you’d call them chances but you’re not saying, ‘he must score there’.

"Even Sterling’s two chances came from him creating it himself. I just feel they’re not creating enough real big opportunities to score goals apart from against Spurs when Havertz had the chance to put the game to bed. I think they’ve got to look for a striker."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has emerged as the Blues' top target to fill the gap at striker. And Morris believes that the Barcelona star is exactly what Tuchel needs as he looks to recover from the defeat at Leeds.

"You’d have to say he’d improve the team at the moment because he’s a renowned goalscorer. I think he would function more as a No.9, I don’t think you’d find him out wide or playing on the left like he did quite a few times for Arsenal," Morris added.

"I think if Chelsea were to sign him they’d want him to operate down the middle. I’m not sure if there are others out there or whether that’s the one they’re doing for, but they definitely need something."
