Two players who have been heavily linked with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in recent transfer windows showed their worth on Saturday evening.
Frenkie de Jong, who was a target for Chelsea this summer, scored for FC Barcelona in their win against Cadiz. The midfielder met a low cross to give Xavi's side the lead in their La Liga fixture.
De Jong appears to be enjoying his football at Barcelona after coming close to joining both Manchester United and Chelsea this summer. Barcelona were open to selling the Dutchman, but he snubbed the Red Devils and Chelsea couldn't agree a deal - with the Blues signing a midfielder in the form of Dennis Zakaria on deadline day.
Meanwhile, Marcelo Brozovic was reportedly on Tottenham's transfer list in January. Brozovic worked under Antonio Conte during the Italian's managerial stint at Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title with the Croatian midfielder being a stalwart in the Inter engine room.
However, a move never materialised, with Spurs bringing in Juventus' Rodrigo Bentancur to bolster their midfield options. The Croatian scored a late goal as Inter beat Torino 1-0 at the San Siro to secure their fourth win of the season. Torino had frustrated Inter, but Brozovic snatched three points after getting on the end of a clever Nico Barella pass.
