Chelsea and Tottenham eyeing transfer backup plans for Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane

Chelsea and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Inter Milan forward Martin Satriano as he continues to impress on loan with French side Brest.

Satriano, 21, has emerged as one of the most promising frontmen in European football having joined the Ligue 1 side on loan in January. Since his move he has notched four goals in 11 appearances and has piqued the interest of several clubs across the continent.

Mirror Football understands that along with French giants Lille and Marseille - Premier League pair Spurs and Chelsea are monitoring the Uruguayan who signed for the Nerazzurri from Nacional in January 2020.

He made his senior debut for the Italians at the start of this season and made three further appearances before a loan move was sanctioned for his developments at the start of this year.

Chelsea look set to be in the market for a striker with the Blues currently considering whether they will allow Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku to leave the club in the summer. Lukaku only returned to Stamford Bridge last year in a club-record deal worth £97.5million.

But after a positive start, the Belgian’s second stint with the Londoners has hit the skids and he has found himself in and out of Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI in recent months. Lukaku was given a rare start in midweek against Arsenal, but flattered to deceive and was withdrawn by his manager during the 4-2 defeat.

Lukaku has often cut a frustrated figure and has openly admitted that he wished the situation surrounding his Inter departure had been handled differently. Asked whether there was a chance Chelsea could end Lukaku’s second spell after just one season, Tuchel said: "That is a question you need to ask him. For us it is clear, we can play with Romelu and we can be very strong with Romelu and we proved it.

“And we will prove it if he is involved and keeps involved mentally and he stays involved in the situation to go through this he can grow from it and come back stronger. It is always like this and it is for sure disappointing for him and not what we expected, not what we expected at the moment, but it is not finished and we will not give in.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte looks destined to have a striker on the agenda, whether Harry Kane leaves White Hart Lane or not. The England captain is sure to be at the centre of speculation when the window opens in June, having looked a sure thing to join Manchester City 12 months previous.

But even if Kane does remain with Spurs for the long-term, they would still like to sign a new striker and Satriano fits the type of profile they are looking for, with Conte having worked with Satriano in the final months of his time in Milan.

Inter are reluctant to lose Satriano but would consider serious offers due to their precarious financial situation. In their most recent accounts, Inter’s losses stood at €245.6m with director Alessandro Antonello admitting that the aim was to halve that deficit by the time the 2022/23 accounts are filed.
