Chelsea and Arsenal given Joao Felix transfer boost as Man Utd weigh up Cody Gakpo alternatives

If Joao Felix is to depart Atletico Madrid in January it will likely be a loan move, with Manchester United now delivering their stance on a possible £8million deal in the winter window. Chelsea and Arsenal have also shown interest in Felix after his future in Spain became unclear with a January switch to the Premier League looking possible.

Paris Saint-Germain recently handed a surprise boost to Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United after their January priority was revealed to be Inter's Milan Skriniar. Atletico's valuation for Portugal international Felix was believed to be around €100million (£86million) and with PSG likely to be the only team with the available January funds to pursue a deal, the Spanish club seem to have made a decision that could tempt multiple clubs into making a move for Felix.

According to British journalist Duncan Castles, Atletico are prepared to let Felix join a Premier League club on loan next month. The La Liga club are reportedly asking for an £8million loan fee, plus the player’s salary to be paid in full, while there would be no contractual option to buy.

A loan deal seems far more appealing, especially now an attacking option for many Premier League clubs seeking to bring depth to their forward line in January vanished. Cody Gakpo, who looked set to be in the middle of a January battle involving United and Arsenal, will instead join Liverpool in January after PSV accepted a package in the region of £50million for the Netherlands international.

Erik ten Hag seemed to be in pole position to bring Gakpo to United in January but was pipped to the move by Jurgen Klopp, who has perhaps provided the perfect blueprint for Arsenal in their Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer saga. After missing out on the 23-year-old, United may have targeted a deal for Felix with ten Hag confirming a striker would be on his winter wish list, but instead it appears the opposite has occurred.

The Guardian has revealed the Red Devils stance on a potential move for the Portuguese international where "it is thought the terms of a loan could put off United." football.london understands that Chelsea have scouted a potential move for Felix and with United seemingly pulling out of the race, Todd Boehly could act quickly to secure a fourth January transfer for the Blues.
