Derby hero Jota says it's far too early to be crowning Celtic champions after their romp over Rangers. But he couldn't hide the cheesing grin from his face as he told a BBC reporter "just chill."
The Portuguese wing wizard was among the goals in the 4-0 thrashing at Celtic Park and his delicate dink over Jon McLaughlin was perhaps the pick of the bunch. It was his fourth goal of the season as he continues to prove his worth after sealing a £6.5million permanent move from Benfica.
Jota now has 17 goals and 18 assists in just 46 appearances for the men in green having been a key part of their dramatic revival under Ange Postecoglou. But he insists it's too early to be labelling their latest derby trouncing as a decisive win in the race for the Premiership trophy - because he's seen for himself that you can't count your chickens until they hatch in the league title race.
Jota was asked on Sportscene if it was a "statement" victory as far as Celtic 's title defence is concerned and he laughed: "Come on. This is September isn't it? It's too early.
"Last season people kept saying that they were in front of us and the championship was done. Things don't work like that. This is football, it's game after game.
"Until May there is plenty of football to be played. So just chill, there is plenty of stuff to do."
