Drinkers are celebrating after having a whip-round to save their village pub.
When the Radnor Arms closed its doors in 2016, 400 thirsty residents were left without a boozer.
But they rallied round, set up a committee to buy the building for their community and last month snapped it up for £115,000.
Now they aim to raise another £50,000 to refurbish the building.
Committee member Ruth Watson said: “The village is delighted to have the opportunity to reinstate its pub. We have a 15-plus committee including local trades folk and we intend to make a start on refurbishing as soon as possible.”
The action group was formed when the pub closed in 2016.
It kept a register of customers in the tiny village of New Radnor, Powys, and gathered letters of support from user groups while blocking any changes of use for the white stone building.
Ruth said: “In July we were told the pub would be auctioned in October so we hurriedly finished our business plan for the purchase and refurbishment.
“We would like to have a bar open by Christmas, if not before.”
