Cheating can cost schools HS council affiliation

KOLKATA: Higher secondary schools can lose their affiliation to the state HS council if cheating is reported in their centres during the state higher secondary examinations that are set to resume from April 2. For the first time in its history, the exams will be conducted in the students’ respective home centres. There are 6,727 venues.

Cellphones have been barred in the examination centres and the council is appointing special observers and nominees who will keep tabs on the examinations in addition to the two invigilators. A notice regarding special observers at the venues also read that teaching and non-teaching staff are prohibited from entering the exam room with their mobile phones.

The home centre arrangement was initially put in place to overcome pandemic-related safety and travel concerns.
