Holidaymakers heading overseas in the coming week will face added pressure on their finances as the pound slips against most major currencies. Sterling's value against the euro and the dollar has stabilised but recent losses have affected the spending power of Brits abroad.
However, there is still one destination where UK visitors can get great value-for-money - with a pint of local beer the equivalent of just £1.99. According to a study by exchange expert Saxo, the Turkish lira now worth more than double against the pound compared to this time last year.
Meanwhile, petrol in Turkey sells at an average of 94p per litre - less than half the price of the UK. Turkey has long been one of the most affordable holiday destinations for families, with the Post Office's latest Holiday Money Index also ranking it as the best value location.
The average bill of dinner for two in a local restaurant in Turkish resorts is just £14, according to the latest survey. Other value-for-money locations are Portugal, Spain and Germany, while the USA and Australia have been found to be the most expensive for spending.
UK visitors no longer have to produce a negative Covid test of proof of vaccination to enter Turkey.
The UK Foreign Office website now states: "All Covid-19 restrictions in Turkey have been lifted, and passengers arriving in Turkey are no longer required to present proof of vaccination or negative PCR test results."
However, it advises travellers to check the Covid rules before departure as they can "change at short notice".
