As artificial intelligence leaders gather in Washington for a meeting with senators about the regulation of AI, the largest AI chatbot has been hit with an outage.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT suffered an outage in several areas of the world Wednesday morning. OpenAI’s Status page acknowledged the problem at 9:04 a.m. ET and implemented a fix roughly 90 minutes later.
The company wrote “our systems are recovering gradually and we’re continuing to monitor,” but did not discuss what had caused the issue.
Reports of outages on DownDetector, which also showed the spike, are slowly beginning to ebb as well.
The problems with the chatbot came roughly two weeks after users complained the AI site was “broken.”
The most recent problems came as tech CEOs, including Elon Musk, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Google's Sundar Pichai and OpenAI's Sam Altman went to the Capitol to discuss AI regulation with senators in a closed-door meeting. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is overseeing that forum, which is set to run at least six hours.
