ChatGPT creator OpenAI buys smartphone camera maker in $300m deal

  • OpenAI has reportedly acquired California -based smartphone camera startup Glass Imaging in a deal valued at over $300 million.
  • Founded by former Apple engineers, Glass Imaging uses artificial intelligence to significantly enhance image quality, reduce blur, and correct lens imperfections.
  • The acquisition fuels speculation that the technology will be integrated into a mystery AI device being developed by OpenAI alongside former Apple designer Jony Ive.
  • OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman has described the unannounced product as an unobtrusive pocket or desk device capable of being fully aware of a user's surroundings.
  • The mystery gadget is expected to be unveiled next year, with Mr Altman claiming it could increase OpenAI's value by $1 trillion.
