If you are a Chase Bank customer that uses Zelle and are experiencing double charges and duplicate transactions, there is good news.
You're not the only one.
DON'T MISS: Wells Fargo Embroiled in Yet Another Scandal
One Chase customer on Downdetector -- a website that tracks major disruptions on digital networks -- reported, "Zelle payments to other Chase customers did get the duplicate deposit (at least in my case), however Zelle payments to non-Chase customers only received one deposit. This overdrafted my account."
Other customers complained that they were not able to fix the issue despite multiple calls to customer service.
While JPMorgan Chase (JPM) did not immediately return a request for comment, it did tell Downdetector, “We’re sorry that some customers are seeing duplicate transactions and fees on their checking account. We’re working to automatically reverse any duplicates and adjust any related fees."
Downdetector relies on self-reported issues. While the number of outage reports has dropped from its 11 a.m. EST peak, there were still 76 reports of problems at last check at 2 p.m. EST.
This isn't the first time Zelle users have had issues with the online payment network.
In January, multiple customers reported waking up to find their bank accounts were missing thousands of dollars or had been zeroed out entirely.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has been one of the biggest critics of Zelle, saying that there is "rampant fraud and theft" through the payment app in a report.
According to data provided by four banks that use Zelle, $90 million in customer money was taken by scams and fraud claims in 2020, and was on pace to go over $255 million in 2022.
