A country pub overlooking a cricket pitch in Nottinghamshire has been recommended by the prestigious Michelin Guide. The Reindeer at Hoveringham has been honoured for its traditional pub favourites.
Gourmet burgers, fish and chips and homemade pies are served at the luxury gastro pub in Main Street, not forgetting the 'ultimate' Sunday roast, with dry aged beef, rolled pork belly or Nottinghamshire leg of lamb and all the trimmings.
The entry in the food lover's bible reads: "You’ll find this friendly village pub tucked away down a narrow country lane. After undergoing a major revamp, it's become a bright and modern space, but still with a culinary focus on traditional pub favourites.

"Unfussy, classic dishes like bangers and mash - along with daily specials - are cooked with great care and using quality ingredients, resulting in appealing, flavourful food. Charming service and a prime view of the local cricket pitch help make a visit here even more enjoyable."
The pub was taken over by Sean Reddington, the owner of the Old Vol in Caythorpe, last year. The Reindeer reopened after a £100,000 revamp in December 2022.
A spokesman for the Reddington Pub Co. said they were delighted. "This demonstrates that the hard work and dedication that the kitchen brigade and front of house team give daily, is recognised in one of the world's greatest gourmet guides. The Reindeer is testament to the adage 'great things come in small packages'.
"The cosy interior and effortlessly stylish outside terraces overlooking Hoveringham cricket ground are the perfect location for a hearty supper, a light lunch or one of Andy’s gut-busting ultimate Sunday roasts. Behind the bar you’ll find expertly kept local real ales, fine wine and friendly, approachable service.
"In winter cosy up next to the roaring log burner with a glass of glorious Malbec and a homemade sausage roll available daily on the bar or celebrate with a full three-course meal. Quaff your favourite tipple while watching our local cricket team during the summer season, what could be more quintessentially British that the sound of leather on willow. We’re Hoveringham's local, but so much more."
Food lovers seeking out Michelin recommended spots to eat will also find Japanese grill house, Kushi-ya, at the end of Cannon Court alleyway, which was awarded a Bib Gourmand in March - a value for money food award. Iberico World Tapas,in High Pavement, also has the same honour.
