Charlton midfielder Ben Dempsey is on the verge of becoming Ayr United's second signing of the January transfer window.
The box-to-box midfielder, who came through the Addicks' youth academy, is expected to seal a deal after travelling north.
The Ayrshire Post understands his signing could be agreed within the next 24 hours, subject to a medical.
Dempsey, who has made a total of 11 first team appearances at the Valley, has caught the eye of United's recruitment department and is seen as the ideal option for the middle of the park.
The Londoner has been on the books at Charlton since rising up through their youth ranks.
He was handed his first professional contract in May 2018 and made his first-team debut three months later in an EFL Trophy clash against MK Dons.
Dempsey has spent three spells out on loan, including 26 appearances for National League side Woking last season.
The potential signing comes ahead of a packed fixture schedule for Ayr with five games in the next two weeks.
