Charlton Athletic boss Johnnie Jackson's red card demand and claims about Bolton Wanderers goals

Johnnie Jackson felt Gethin Jones should have been shown a red card as he bemoaned the goals Bolton Wanderers scored as 'really poor' from Charlton Athletic's perspective.

Dion Charles put Wanderers in front early on after getting the better of Akin Famewo and rounding Craig MacGillivray to give the hosts the lead.

But the Addicks equalised when substitute Chuks Aneke rose highest to head past James Trafford.

However, Wanderers retook the lead and what proved to be the three points when Will Aimson headed home Aaron Morley's dangerous free-kick to give Wanderers 16 points out of their last 18 on offer.

In the first half, Jones was shown a yellow card following a heavy challenge on Addicks man George Dobson, with Ian Evatt even admitting that referee Ben Toner could have dismissed the Wanderers vice-captain.

And Jackson believes it could have been a red card too, as he bemoaned the nature of the goals his side conceded at the University of Bolton Stadium.

He said: "I was (surprised it was only a yellow card), I thought it was a red card. I think it’s a bad tackle from the lad.

"He’s caught George late and high up. It’s not on his foot, it’s above his ankle and his shin so it’s not a good tackle and it should be a red card.

“It was a tight game decided by from our point of view two really poor goals conceded that ultimately have cost us.

“I’m really disappointed with that and the nature of the goals we’ve given away. The first one is an individual mistake which gives them the lead and then you’re chasing a little bit.

“We got ourselves back in the game but then conceded from a set play, which is really disappointing.

“We didn’t need to commit a foul in that position that’s going to allow the delivery to come into your box, but then once you do, you have to defend it and we haven’t in that moment. I haven’t seen it back but obviously a lack of concentration and not enough desire to keep it out of your net and that’s what you need in those situations.

“I didn’t think it was the worst possible start. I thought for 10 minutes we had a good shape about us and we managed to quieten the crowd down and didn’t allow them to have a fast start.

"There was nothing in the game, it was a stalemate up until that point and then it’s an individual mistake and now they’ve got a goal lead from nothing when there’s been nothing in the game, so that changes the complexion of the game then. In the first half it was a bit of a stalemate and there wasn’t too much action but sometimes away from home, you’re happy with that.

“You want to keep it tight and we done that for 10 minutes, but then you give them a goal. All your plans go out of the window really so that’s disappointing.”

“We gave away another poor goal so if you’re going to give away two goals like that, it’s really difficult to win a match.”
