Charlie Nicholas can't stand Celtic pub debates as he raves about how Ange smacks them away

Former Celtic star Charlie Nicholas reckons those comparing Kyogo to Henrik Larsson are missing the point and urged punters to just enjoy the Japanese marksman.

The talismanic striker has netted 30 goals in the season and his uncanny knack of netting on the biggest of occasions has drawn favourable comparisons with the man dubbed the 'King of Kings'. But Nicholas is adamant it's futile to try and compare the duo and points to the Super Swede's seven-year reign as the best player in Scottish football as to why.

And the outspoken pundit – a major fan of Ange Postecoglou – admits the Australian's own stance over lofty links is the perfect approach when probed. Speaking in his Express column, the 60–year–old said: "Kyogo Furuhashi has been a big player in Celtic's title win but it is still too early for him to be mentioned in the same breath as Henrik Larsson. The Japanese striker was hardly in the game at Hearts but still came up with the opening goal in the win that clinched the championship. He is very much a key player and component of Ange Postecoglou's Celtic team but you can't compare him to Larsson.

"The Swede's superiority was when he got to season four and he hit a level of consistency that was special. Kyogo is only two years into his Parkhead career. Maybe in another two or three seasons, if he is still producing at this level then he will be viewed in the same light.

"Anyway, why do we need to constantly compare people? Somebody mentioned Jock Stein to Postecoglou the other day and I loved how he just dismissed it instantly. There is no need to go down that road. Kyogo is the difference maker with his energy, movement and goals. He was barely involved at Tynecastle on Sunday but still scored. Kyogo has been a prolific scorer and a key player in this Treble charge."

Nicholas believes Kyogo is the prototype player others will look towards but insists it's no banker the former Vissel Kobe forward will exit Parkhead even if suitors come calling for his services.

He added: "There will be teams looking at him and the salary he is on and there will be some big teams looking to take him away. I don't know if he would be tempted by England or Europe. His salary won't be high and the elite clubs will know that. Let's just enjoy him for as long as Kyogo is at Celtic."
