Charles Barkley: Anthony Davis ‘should’ve been the best player’ by now

After starting 2-10, the Los Angeles Lakers may be coming alive, as they’ve won four of their last five games.

The biggest key to that spurt has been the play of Anthony Davis, who has simply been dominant in that span.

He had 25 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots in L.A.’s 15-94 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. In each of the team’s previous four games, Davis had at least 35 points and 15 boards.

It has brought his season averages up to 26.3 points on 57.0 percent shooting, 12.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks a contest.

Still, there are plenty of people who levy criticism at Davis, including lots of Lakers fans. One of those pundits is Hall of Famer and “NBA on TNT” analyst Charles Barkley.

Clearly, Barkley isn’t impressed with how Davis has played lately, although, by all objective measures, he has played extremely impressive ball.

He has also done all this while dealing with a lower back ailment since training camp that has caused him to miss only one regular season contest so far.

During the offseason, head coach Darvin Ham said the superstar big man would be the key to the Lakers. Clearly, Davis has been delivering big time.
