Charlene White starts Loose Women with 'critical' update amid concern

There was a sombre start to Thursday's Loose Women, when host Charlene White was forced to deliver a 'tough' update to viewers on the search for the missing Titanic submarine.

Every day so far this week, Loose Women has begun with live updates on the story that has dominated headlines across the world, as hopes of rescuing the five people on board the OceanGate Expeditions submersible start to fade. After five days of no contact with its mother ship, the Polar Prince, the oxygen supply to the missing vessel ran out shortly after 12 noon UK time on Thursday.

That was less than half an hour before Loose Women came to air and when it did, Charlene broke the news to ITV viewers at home that time was now running out for a 'miracle' rescue due to the time passing for oxygen expiring. Within seconds of the live broadcast starting, Charlene said: "We're starting with the latest on the search for the missing Titanic submersible, where the efforts to find it and the five people on board, reach a critical stage."

She continued: "Various reports are saying that the oxygen supplies will have now run out. Experts are still calling it a search and rescue mission, so we have do have to remain hopeful about the future," before adding: "Obviously, out thoughts go out to all those families who are involved in this; it's a really, really difficult and unique situation that those people have found themselves."

Charlene ended her opening statement by raising the questions being asked about 'regulation' in regard to the missing sub and whether the trips by OceanGate Expeditions should have been allowed' in the first place.
