Chargers QB Justin Herbert gives his take on Broncos QB Bo Nix

Sunday was not the first time Justin Herbert and Bo Nix faced off on the gridiron.

Five years ago, Nix led Auburn on a game-winning drive to defeat Herbert and Oregon 27-21 in the 2019 season opener, Nix’s college debut. Herbert graduated after that season and three years later, Nix transferred to Oregon.

They met again on Sunday, with Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers getting the best of Nix and the Denver Broncos in a 23-16 road run.

After the game, Herbert was asked about his Ducks connection to Nix.

“I missed him by a couple years where I was not there at Oregon when he was,” Herbert said. “But my younger brother played with him. We have nothing but respect for him. He made a lot of plays out there today.”

Going into Sunday’s game, Herbert was 0-4 in Denver, a losing streak that he snapped in Week 6.

“Yeah, we talked about that,” Herbert said after the game. “It has been awhile since the Chargers have won here. We have a lot of respect for this team. The offense, the defense, they are a good football team. We knew it was a tough place to play. It is an awesome atmosphere. We are happy to walk away with a win.”

Herbert finished the game 21-of-34 for 237 yards with one touchdown pass and no interceptions. Nix went 19-of-33 for 216 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 61 yards.

Herbert and Nix will face off again in Week 16 when the Chargers host the Broncos on Dec. 22 at SoFi Stadium.
