Chappell Roan made a gravity-defying fashion statement on the red carpet at the 2026 Grammy Awards at the weekend, arriving in a gown suspended by her nipple piercings.
The 27-year-old singer posed for photographers in a deep maroon, custom Thierry Mugler gown inspired by the designer’s Spring/Summer 1998 couture collection. The dramatic design featured an open front and back, leaving much of her torso exposed.
Roan’s extensive body tattoos were fully on display, while she completed the look with gold jewellery and her signature red hair styled in tight, cascading curls.
Fans were quick to share their reactions on social media.

Roan was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her track Subway, following her Best New Artist win at last year’s ceremony — a breakthrough moment that cemented her rise as one of pop’s most distinctive voices.
Later in the night, the Pink Pony Club singer returned to the stage to present the Best New Artist award to Olivia Dean, having changed into a flowing, one-shoulder cream gown featuring a bold cut-out detail.
Roan wasn’t the only one who caused a stir on arrivals. Heidi Klum also drew attention in a flesh-toned, mannequin-inspired outfit, while comparisons were made to Bianca Censori’s near-naked appearance at last year’s Grammys alongside her husband Kanye West.
This year’s ceremony in Los Angeles marked a shift in format, with only nine awards presented during the televised broadcast. Major categories including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist received airtime, while the remaining awards were handed out earlier in the day.
The three-hour show leaned heavily into performances, including a return to the Grammys stage by Justin Bieber — his first in four years — while Trevor Noah hosted the ceremony for the sixth and final consecutive time.
