A trespasser has been hit by a train causing severe disruption along a huge swathe of the rail network in south London.
The Gatwick Express is cancelled and passengers are advised to avoid the West Croydon, East Croydon area and Billingshurst areas until Friday.
Network Rail said the person was hit by a train earlier on Thursday between Balham and Streatham following earlier reports of someone on the line.
A spokesman said: “Major disruption is expected to continue until the end of service.”
Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink services to and from London Victoria, London Bridge, Clapham Junction and Watford Junction are impacted.
Adding to the chaos is a fault with level crossing barriers near Billingshurst and reports of a trackside fire around East Croydon.

Anyone flying from Gatwick or Luton airports is warned journeys will take much longer.
Those stuck between stations in south London are urged not to leave their train carriages unless asked to do so.
He added: “Other trains may still be moving in the area, and the track is also a very hazardous environment.
“In areas where the trains are powered by an electric third rail, this usually stays live and dangerous during incidents, and looks the same as other rails.
“If your train is delayed between stations, please remain where you are and listen to announcements, or speak to staff for further information.
“We’ll get you moving as soon as possible. We’re aware of your location, and our teams will be doing everything they can to help you continue your journey.”
The spokesman added: “A person has been struck by a train on this part of the network.
“Please avoid travelling on these parts of the network until later this evening.
“If you do travel now, you would need to leave at least 90 minutes of extra time.
“It is very likely you will also need to use an alternative route, should one be available.
“Alternatively, you may use today’s tickets on Southern, Gatwick Express, Thameslink or Great Northern services tomorrow, if you haven’t been able to complete your journey.”
