Dan Walker left viewers thinking they were seeing things on Monday, when he joined Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain, hours ahead of his scheduled debut on Channel 5. And plenty of those watching urged ITV to nap him up as a full time presenter.
There was widespread shock a few months ago when, months after long-serving Louise Minchin quit BBC Breakfast, Dan announced he'd be doing the same thing, to switch channels for a new role on the broadcasting rival. Dan said it was "a huge decision," not only to quit his Breakfast job, but the BBC completely, for the unexpected career move, as viewers were totally blindsided by the news.
Last week, ex Football Focus and Strictly star Dan confirmed that his Channel 5 start date was Monday, June 6, so it came as surprise to those who were up bright and early to tune into Monday's GMB, that he was on there to join another former BBC presenter, Susanna Reid. Pre-empting people's reaction to him being on the ITV show, Dan took to Twitter on Sunday evening to post: "First day of my new TV life tomorrow and it will start in a very strange way… on @GMB. S."

At the end of his tweet, Dan took time to send a message to his former BBC Breakfast colleague Sally Nugent, adding: "PS I still love you @sallynugent."" Good Morning Britain's Twitter account also jumped on eyebrows being raised at Dan being on the programme, sharing a clip of him talking to Susanna and her co-presenter Richard Madeley. Sharing a clip of him in the GMB studio, the tweet read: "Your eyes do not deceive you! It's @mrdanwalker in the GMB studio."
During his interview, Dan, who had some fierce online rivalry with ex GMB host Piers Morgan, admitted his move was still taking some getting used to, saying: "You not what it's like when you change anything, I'm still adjusting to normal hours. " Susanna then joked: "So you're alarm went off at 3 o'clock and you thought 'I can't go into BBC Breakfast, so I'll just pop into Good Morning Britain!"
Dan's GMB appearance and the clip the show shared of him being interviewed sparked a very similar response from a host of viewers - they want him on the show full time. Responding underneath, one tweeted: "He should have been snapped up as Piers replacement," with another replying: "Something one rarely sees on @GMB a professional broadcaster."
