Gogglebox star Lee Riley has explained his and Jenny Newby's recent absence from the hit show. Lee revealed that his comical TV-watching partner is currently recovering in hospital after having an operation.
Lee confirmed his best friend 'isn't well' when speaking on the red carpet at the BAFTAs on Sunday night. He told the Daily Star : "She is not very well, she is having an operation, a mini one, but she is recovering well though.
"She was invited but the appointment was in BAFTA week. You can't turn down an NHS operation down can you? But she is doing well."
It comes after fans of Gogglebox raised concern on Friday night when the pair were missing from the latest episode of the new series on Channel 4. The duo usually film from a caravan in Hull, but Channel 4 bosses didn't mention their absence.
Their loyal following turned to social media to ask about where they were, with many missing their hilarious exchanges.
One Twitter user said: "I do love this show, but it's just not the same without Lee and Jenny." Another added: "Missing my favourites Jenny and Lee."
A third chipped in: "No Jenny and Lee so far." A fourth asked: "Where's Lee and Jenny?"
On Sunday night, Gogglebox took home the prize for Best Reality and Constructed Factual show at the Bafta TV awards at the Royal Albert Hall. Lee took to the stage to give a speech before a member of the production team took to the microphone to criticise Government plans to sell off publicly-owned Channel 4.
Meanwhile, Lee also shared on Instagram that he briefly travelled back to his home in Cyprus that he shares with his partner Steve for a short break. He shared a sweet photo of him and his partner with their arms around each other and wrote: "Love being home if only a short visit to see your loved one."
He and Steve have been together for 26 years, with Lee splitting his time between his sunny holiday home and his caravan.
Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
