Channel 4 Derry Girls cast mistake William Wallace for 'drag queen' in trailer

Derry Girls character Michelle, played by Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, has mistook historical figure William Wallace for something much more modern - a Scottish drag queen!

In the teaser trailer for the third and final series of the hit Channel 4 show, fans were left in stitches at Michelle's jibe at Mel Gibson as he plays Scottish icon William Wallace in hit film Braveheart.

As reported by the Daily Record, Michelle is seen clutching a VHS tape of the movie as she exclaims: "Jesus this looks class.

"This Scottish drag queen takes on the entire English army."

The drag queen in question is Mel Gibson's now infamous 'saltire' makeup of the blue and white Scotland flag.

Michelle's cousin James , played by Dylan Llewellyn, corrects her; "William Wallace wasn't a drag queen Michelle."

Michelle retorts: "He's wearing a skirt and has a full face of foundation on him James."

This clip has fans buzzing for more, as Glasgow Live reported earlier this week that a release date has finally been announced for the third and final season of Channel 4 hit show Derry Girls.

Channel 4 bosses have confirmed that Derry Girls will return for its third and final season on April 12, just under two weeks away from now.

Erin's (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) posse are set to return to their original roles, with Nicola Coughlan as Erin, Louisa Harland as Orla, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell as Michelle and Dylan Llewellyn as James.

However, Nicola Coughlan revealed recently that she will be appearing in a 'reduced' role setting, due to scheduling clashes with her other filming commitments in Bridgeton.

Derry Girls returns with a bang to Channel 4 on April 12, so there's still time to binge seasons one and two before!
