Channel 4 A Place in the Sun 'fail' as property viewing is 'gatecrashed'

Laura Hamilton had her work cut out for her during this week's first instalment of A Place in the Sun.

Potential buyers Gordon and Steph, who have been married for 33 years, were looking for a holiday home they and their grown up children could all enjoy. Recently-retired Gordon also wanted the property to be in close proximity to a golf course.

They were looking in the La Mata resort on Spain’s Costa Blanca, with a budget of £125,000. The couple were hoping for a two, if not three, bedroom apartment - ideally with a pool.

First up, they were shown around a two-bedroom townhouse with a communal pool, tennis court and a gym. They seemed to like the property but after a phone call back home, they admitted they'd need something bigger.

The pair said they hadn't realised both children would want to visit at the same time, so they would probably need a three-bedroom home. The next property was a two-bedroom duplex with a private balcony overlooking a communal pool.

But as there were other people in the pool at the time of their viewing, Steph and Gordon found it to be "too noisy" and ruled it out.

Some fans watching at home were taken aback at the decision, given a communal pool is to be shared with others. Taking to Twitter, Stephanie said: "Noisy people in the pool? Why is it not empty?!"

Jenny Jacks said: "Good grief! People in the pool!!!", while Makaton said: "A pool with people. Didn't they get the memo?". Charlotte said: "Oh no has the communal pool been gatecrashed by other people? #fail".

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4 and All 4
