The Ghera: Where the Skirt Earns Its Spin
A Chaniya Choli ghera is measured in kalis, the number of fabric panels stitched together to form the skirt's circumference. A twelve-kali skirt uses twelve panels. A sixteen-kali uses sixteen. A twenty-four-kali uses twenty-four. Each additional kali adds fabric, weight, and the kind of circular flare that actually lifts when you turn. Budget pieces sold as "full flare" often have eight kalis or fewer; the skirt stays flat when you spin because there is simply not enough fabric to catch air.
