Chandigarh education department to interview teachers on February 14, 15

CHANDIGARH: There has been a shortage of teachers in the Chandigarh education department for a long time and the department has started rectifying the situation.

The interview of teachers coming on deputation from Punjab on February 14 and 15 has been ensured so that the Punjab deputation quota can be met. The department of Punjab Deputation Quota has 15 vacancies for teachers of lecturer cadre. To fill 15 seats, names of 64 lecturers from Punjab have come to the department. Their interview will start from 10am on February 14 and 15 at RUSA branch in Sector 42.

Since Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and Haryana, teachers from both states come on deputation to city schools. The quota of deputation teachers of Punjab and Haryana is more than 150, on which 40% teachers come from Haryana and 60% come from Punjab. The tenure of teachers coming on deputation lasts for three years, after which they have to go back to their home state and serve.

Chandigarh education department has 42 senior secondary schools and the department has approved the appointment of 559 teachers. At present, the department has more than 35,000 students in classes 11th and 12th, for which about 270 teachers are with the department and 289 posts are still vacant.
